Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco scored his first goal for his new club in a 2-1 victory over the Costa Rica U23 national team.
Toronto finished off their pre-season with a 2-1 victory in Florida against the Costa Rica U23 national team. New signing Giovinco scored his first goal for his new side with a nice half volley with his right foot from the edge of the area in the 9th minute of the game. The 28-year old Italian then had a chance to double his lead in the first half from the penalty spot, but the Costa Rica goalkeeper made a low diving save to deny Giovinco a second.
In the second half of the game Giovinco got himself an assist after a nice little run into the area, followed by a cross to the far post where Jozy Altidore was waiting to strike as he volleyed the ball past the near post and into the back of the net to put his new side 2-0 up in the 63rd minute.
All in all a good game from the striker who arrived from Juventus in the winter transfer window. Altidore had his say about his new strike partner after the game saying “We tried to put [Sebastian] in a position where he can try to play his own game, I thought today was great, we all connected with him well and I connected with him well”, Gazzetta Dello Sport reports.
I think its fair to say we can expect many more goals from Giovinco once the new season kicks off and plenty more link up play with his new partner Altidore should certainly help Toronto to some very good results this season.
