Giovinco to move to Toronto NOW

Image
As reported earlier this week, Sebastian Giovinco's agent Andrea D'Amico was in Toronto, planning his client's next move.  With Giovinco's anticipated passage to Toronto FC in July, the diminutive striker could have been turned into a "lame duck" in Turin.  That situation turned into an opportunity for all parties involved: a January departure would save Juventus a little over €1 million of Giovinco's salary, and Toronto FC would have the player for the beginning of the season which would benefit the club in terms of sporting and marketing outcomes. This morning both Romeo Agresti of Turin and Gianluca Di Marzio have reported that the Atomic Ant will leave Juventus in this transfer session . D'Amico is smoothing the final details which may include Toronto FC taking on the deal from February 1, Giovinco walking away from his Juventus salary, or Juventus paying him out the rest of his salary. CatenaccioNA will reveal further details

#Giovinco's transfer not a "Bloody Big Deal". His agent in Toronto for the next move

Image
Sebastian Giovinco's announcement to the MLS isn't a "Bloody Big Deal" like his predecessor Jermain Defoe's. It's bigger. The passage of a talented professional the calibre of Giovinco in North America - in the prime of his career - has turned heads. Mostly, Italian soccer players' heads. With the exception of Di Vaio and Nesta, very few Serie A stars considered Major League Soccer as a destination, and no one did so in the prime of their careers. The waters chartered by Di Vaio and Nesta helped Andrea D'Amico and his client Giovinco consider the MLS as a destination to consider his future. In his interviews with Anthony Totera on NextStarSports and with Paolo Canciani on Toronto's CHIN Radio D'Amico specified that Giovinco was not simply looking at the economic considerations (as hard as it can be not to look at $7 million/year) but was looking for a new challenge, a "project" in D'Amico's words. The Giovinco tra

The MLS outfit announces that it will acquire the rights to Sebastian Giovinco upon the expiry of his contract in July 2015 The subject of Toronto FC’s “major announcement” at 13:00 local time was no surprise to anyone: Toronto FC has acquired the sporting rights to Sebastian Giovinco. The move will take place on July 1, 2015 after Giovinco’s current contract with Juventus expires. Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney is excited at the prospect of Giovinco’s arrival: “For me [Sebastian) is best used as a second forward or as an attacking midfielder. We needed a player that could help us create in the attacking third”, TorontoFC.ca reports. Toronto FC CEO Tim Bezbatchenko stated that today marks an historic moment for Toronto, but also for the MLS as Giovinco is in his prime and has decided to make a permanent move to Major League Soccer. Bezbatchenko also specified that no money was paid to Juventus for this transfer, thus confirming that he will not move to

The Atomic Ant cruises to Toronto on boatloads of cash: additional details on his pharaonic deal

Further details arise on Giovinco's somewhat shocking transfer to Major League Soccer. The talent from the suburban Turinese city of Beniasco, born and raised - football-wise - at Juventus will make his move to Toronto after the expiry of his current contract with the bianconeri, therefore as a free transfer. Giovinco didn't spend much time humming and hawing over TFC's contract offer. In fact, today's Gazzetta dello Sport confirms a pharaonic five-year contract of $7 million per year plus as much as $3 million more in bonuses. Catenaccio-NA learned of the news yesterday afternoon, confirmed later in the evening by traditional Toronto-based media outlets, and this morning by Italian ones. Juventus currently denies any knowledge of the deal, officially or unofficially, while TFC has set a "major announcement" tomorrow at 1pm Toronto time. In the deal, Toronto does not acquire his image rights, therefore he is free to earn 100% of eventual endorsement deals. G

Giovinco set to join Toronto FC

The saga regarding Giovinco seems to have come to a conclusion. Earlier today we reported that Giovinco was offered a pharaonic two-year €6 million per season contract. Thereafter, sources close to Giovinco's family relayed news to Catenaccio-NA this afternoon that Giovinco accepted TFC's offer. Following that, the news was recently confirmed by Sportsnet's John Molinaro. The same sources told Catenaccio-NA that the atomic ant's agent Andrea D'Amico is expected in Toronto on Tuesday or Wednesday to discuss contract details. Giovinco will move to the MLS on a free transfer after the expiry of his current contract that will end in June 2015. This season the striker from Beniasco has collected 10 appearances (for only 191 minutes, or the equivalent of 2 matches) and recently scored a brace in the Italian Cup match Juventus-Hellas Verona.

Important offer from the MLS for Giovinco

Major League Soccer side Toronto FC has made a substantial offer for the Atomic Ant to join them once his contract expires in June 2015 Toronto yes, Toronto no. Reports from ESPN say yes, Italian source say no. Until today. According to Gianluca Di Marzio , MLS outfit Toronto Football Club has made an offer to the Atomic Ant . And it's a significant one: €6 million per season. And Giovinco reflects. As reported just a few days ago, Corriere Canadese 's Leonardo Molinelli spoke to Giovinco's agent Andrea D'Amico who flat out denied any interest or offer made by Toronto FC, debunking any theory or interest from either party to make such a move at this time. D'Amico did confirm, however, that Giovinco will not move in January and will determine his fate upon the expiry of his contract at which point he will be free to choose his next destination.
